Parents Be Sure to Sign Up for Remind

Dear Parents of Kensington Elementary School Students,
I’d like to welcome you and your child to our school for the 2020-2021 school year. This year, the school will use Remind to help keep you informed about school activities and assignments. Remind is a free service that lets the school send quick messages via text to everyone involved. We’ll be able to stay in touch without revealing our personal contact information. Signing up for the school’s messages on Remind is easy.

Steps to Sign-up

1. Text the school’s code @62gchf to 81010.
2. Reply to the message from the Remind team with your first and last
name, and you’re in!

Thanks for signing up for the school on Remind. Here’s some information
that might be helpful:
● Your personal contact information is not visible to anyone or the
school.
● I can send announcements to the entire school.
● All messages are recorded or easily accessible in case they need to
be referenced in the future.
● Messages from the school will be sent directly to your phone.
We are excited to use Remind this year to communicate. If you have any
questions about Remind, please feel free to contact me at
bcheek@gcsd.k12.sc.us . Kensington Elementary looks forward to
connecting with you!

Congratulations to our 5th Grade Graduates!

Social-Emotional Learning Packet for Covid-19 Closure

Please be sure to review the Social-Emotional Learning Packet to help your child have a better understanding of Covid-19 and strategies that they can use when they are feeling worried. We encourage parents to complete some of the activities together to help facilitate discussions about healthy social practices. What can be found in the Learning Packet? Strategies to help answer the question "What do I do if I'm feeling worried?", it also helps answer questions that students may have about Coronavirus, and it has some wonderful activities for students to do at home for their Social-Emotional well-being. The packet is in English and Spanish.

Principal's Message

Dear Kensington Students and Parents,

WELCOME BACK! I hope that this letter finds you and your loved ones healthy and well. It is hard to believe that summer vacation has ended, and it is time to begin another wonderful school year! This past school year has forced us all to adjust in many ways, and I want to thank all of you for being flexible and accommodating during COVID-19. I also want to thank you all for being great partners in learning during these uncertain times. Your cooperation and collaborative thinking has increased health and safety for our koalas, as well as stirred creative and efficient solutions to online learning. Considering the uncertainty of what the future will bring, at the present, school life will be much different compared to what we have experienced in the past. However, we are committed to giving students experiences that will help them grow and feel a part of a community again. We have taken proactive measures to assist in the continued health and well-being of our students and staff.

We will continue to work hard as we prepare our koalas for college and career opportunities. We appreciate your support as we strive to educate our students to be the best and excel in life. I look forward to working with you all. Let’s have a great 2020-21SY!

Building the Brightest Future,

Maurice L. Cobb
